Maria Panteli is currently a special research assistant in a project that examines cognitive processes and physiological and behavioral aspects of emotional reactivity and regulation in Alexithymia, at the Center for Applied Neuroscience, University of Cyprus and is funded by the internal grants of the University of Cyprus and student grants of Youth Board of Cyprus.

She holds a BA in Psychology and two Masters degrees in Cognitive and Educational psychology (University of Cyprus) and in Research Methods in Psychology (University of Surrey, UK), while currently she is a Ph.D. student in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cyprus under the supervision of Professor Dr. Georgia Panayiotou. She has also worked as a Special Scientist in the Department of Psychology, where she taught Psychology of Motivation in undergraduate students.

She is experienced in monitoring and analyzing several psychophysiological measurements including heart rate variability, heart rate, skin conductance, corrugator and zygomatic muscles reactivity, and startle reflex and behavioral measurements such as eye-gaze behavior and reaction times. She has also received education for the use of electrophysiological (EEG) and neuroimaging techniques (fMRI) during her postgraduate studies.

Her research interests are in the area of emotion processing and regulation through the use of subjective, expressive and physiological measurements. Her current research project focuses on understanding the underlying pathways linking alexithymia with physical and mental health conditions through the use of several methods including physiological, electrophysiological, behavioural and subjective measurements. She has extensive prior experience in emotion research and various statistical approaches, such as Structured Equation Modelling etc
